Lay Safe Ministry Clearance

Thank you for volunteering for a ministry role within your church.

The Anglican Church is committed to doing everything we can to ensure our churches are safe for all who participate in church activities - including our volunteers. That is why we require everyone who has a ministry role within the church to meet specific standards of personal conduct.

Lay Safe Ministry Clearance Level

There are different levels of clearances depending on the roles your are undertaking.

You can review the roles that fall under each clearance category in the Lay Safe Ministry Clearances Policy.


Clearance Level A is required for:

  • Anyone undertaking a volunteer role where children and/or vulnerable people may be present

Clearance Level B is required for:

  • Governance, Leadership & Responsible roles

Clearance Level C is required for:

  • Other roles

Clearance Level A

Clearance Level A requires you to complete the following within one month:

  • A Working with Children Check

  • A National Police Check

  • Safe Church Training

  • A Safe Ministry Check

Clearance Level B

Clearance Level B requires you to complete the following within one month:

  • A Working with Children Check

  • A National Police Check

  • Safe Church Training

  • A Safe Ministry Check

Clearance Level C

Clearance Level C requires you to complete the following within one month:

  • A Working with Children Check

  • A National Police Check

  • Safe Church Training

Our commitment to these standards requires that we conduct background referencing for all persons who intend to engage in ordained and lay ministry.
